roachlock-void-dust
RoachLock Void Duster

The applicator, not the powder. A squeeze bulb duster with a bent brass tip that puffs a thin, even film of insect dust deep into cracks, wall voids, and the gaps behind cabinets and appliances, the places a bead of gel cannot reach. A collapsible funnel and a measuring scoop are included for filling it.

It arrives empty

No powder is included. The bulb holds about 8 oz. Insect dust is inexpensive and stocked by most hardware, garden and farm supply stores, so you buy a bag locally and fill the duster yourself. Refill it as often as you like.

What to put in it

Most people use food grade diatomaceous earth, a fine dust made from fossilised algae. The particles are sharp edged, so they wear away the waxy coating on a roach that walks through the film and the insect dries out. It works mechanically rather than chemically, which is why roaches do not build resistance to it. Follow the directions on whichever product you buy.

It only works dry

Dust works as a dry film. Damp powder, or powder that has been wet and dried again, clumps and stops doing anything, so keep it away from sinks, from under fridges where condensation collects, and from any surface that gets wiped down. Lay it in dry voids and along dry runways and leave it undisturbed.

How to use it

Fill the bulb about halfway using the funnel and scoop. Squeeze gently. A barely visible film is the right amount, because roaches walk around a visible pile instead of through it. Treat wall voids, the gap under the kick plate of cabinets, behind the fridge and stove, and along the top of the skirting where it meets the floor.
